Thank you Mullica Hill – Blueplate is back and even better!

A big THANK YOU from local business owner Jim Malaby and his family, owners of Blueplate restaurant. Plus some exciting news on Blueplate!

Please allow me to introduce myself; my name is Jim Malaby and along with my wife Michelle and our two daughters we own the Blueplate Restaurant. We have been located for over 14 years in the heart of the historical district of Mullica Hill. As you may have heard our restaurant was struck by a devastating fire that forced us to close for almost 14 months. Michelle and I experienced many sleepless nights, only to be lifted by the heartfelt support of our friends, neighbors, and customers. Your kind words got us through one of the darkest times in our lives. We feel truly blessed to be part of such a special community. From the bottom of our hearts we THANK YOU for your support!

Michelle and I had hoped to invite all of you to a spectacular Grand Reopening party. We wanted to show off the beautiful restaurant we had dreamed of during the restoration, but knew that we and our many returning loyal team members needed to get our “groove” back. So, in mid-September we quietly reopened with little fanfare and with much of the finishing touches of the decor still needing to be completed.

Within a few short days the phone rang off the hook with callers confirming that we were open, and the lines began to form at the door. Again, the support from all of you was overwhelming! Although, we did have some kinks to work out and I’m concerned that we may not have always provided the best “Blueplate” experience – for this I apologize. Each day we get better and better and I promise our team is working diligently to continue improving. THANK YOU again for your support and your patience!

I’d like to share with you some of what’s new at the Blueplate! First off, we have opened Upstairs at the Blueplate – a warm eclectic space for parties and special events that’s decorated with chandeliers and 100-year-old repurposed beams. The new space also increases our capacity during our popular Saturday and Sunday brunch, helping to shorten and possibly eliminate waiting lines.

I’m also excited to introduce my intimate Chef’s Table, a private room with seating for up to eight. Where I will develop with you a special menu which I will personally prepare. If you are interested in having a gathering at Upstairs at the Blueplate or a unique dining experience at my Chef’s Table please email me at

Of course, we will continue to offer our locally inspired recipes such as Attack of the Jersey Tomato! and Grasso Farm Stand Dinners. Our family night out with Taco Tuesday and my specialty concoctions like French Toast with Blueberries and Brie will also continue at the new Blueplate. I’m so excited to continue creating in my brand-new kitchen! To keep up with all the happenings at Blueplate please follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

In closing, there are no other words to express our appreciation, except for Thank You. Thank you for your kind words during our closing, thank you for your patience in our reopening and thank you for your more than a decade of support for Blueplate.
