This coming Monday, January 17, we recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and celebrate the legacy of the great civil rights leader. It remains the only federal holiday marked as a national day of service in the United States, with the stated goal of encouraging all to volunteer and to do their part to improve the communities in which they live.
Dr. King lived his life serving others. In honor of his example, the third Monday of January each year, millions of Americans step forward in their communities to serve on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Through that service, we bring to life his vision of neighbors working together to build a better future. This holiday is often referred to as a “day on,” not a “day off.”
In that spirit, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church plans to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once again by staging their Day of Service Outreach Program event this Saturday, January 15, from 2 to 3 PM at their location on High Street. They established this program one year ago to support local families in need by providing Gift Cards to eateries donated by local businesses. This month’s event is sponsored by the local Dunkin Donuts and its owner, Mr. Kenny Patel.
We appreciate and recognize Mt. Calvary and Mr. Patel for their dedication to our community and to Dr. King’s legacy.
Together for Harrison Township,
