Mayor’s Minutes

As the weather turns warmer, I know many of us get a burst of energy. Throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons there are numerous events planned around town.

To our Harrison Family,

As the weather turns warmer, I know many of us get a burst of energy. I certainly do. Maybe it’s the return to the outdoors and the chance to reconnect with others after the winter months. I find myself stopping by a neighbor’s to say hello as they work in their yard or smiling as I drive by our schools and see the children playing outside. The nice weather sets the stage for long-standing events on our Main Street and throughout town, like last week’s Art Festival, as well as new traditions, such as Thursday night’s Shopping Under the Stars, returning for its second year. Although the weather didn’t completely cooperate, last Saturday was quite a day on Main. This year’s Art Festival shared their stage with our Historical Society, to celebrate the Centennial of the first transportations of vegetables by airplane, originating in Mullica Hill. You can learn more about the history here. Allow me to acknowledge our asparagus recipe contest winners:

  • First Place – Asparagus Bundt Cake – Gina Totten
  • Second Place – Shrimp and Asparagus Salad – David Tinney
  • Third Place – Asparagus Quiche – Mary Ellen Volkmar
  • Fourth Place – Mullica Hill Farm Fresh Asparagus Flatbread – Maureen Brigham
  • Fifth Place – Asparagus and Prosciutto Roll Mac and Cheese – Gloria Horvay
  • Sixth Place – Asparagus Chocolate Cupcakes – Karen Viereck

Throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons there are numerous events planned around town, including Drive in Movie Nights starting this weekend, The Garden Tour and Taste of the Tea on June 18th, August 4th’s Summer Social supporting our Beautification Committee and so many more. Stay tuned to Happening in the Hill for all the details on upcoming events. It is truly a special feeling to be on Main Street or any location in town as our community comes together for these activities and events. Thank you to our Recreation Commission, Mullica Hill Business Association and residents who make the magic happen with so many fun activities in the Hill.

One of our very special annual events is taking place in just a couple of weeks. Harrison Township Day AKA Celebration on Main is scheduled for Saturday, June 4th. This celebration of our hometown, recently moved to the first Saturday in June annually, has gotten bigger and better each year and this year will not disappoint. The festivities will include free amusements, live entertainment, fun themed destinations at many of our Main Street shoppes, food trucks, spectacular fireworks and so much more. You can find all the Celebration details on the official Fun Guide.

This event comes together through the tremendous generosity of our sponsors. A special thanks to Inspira Health, Stags Leap Ranch and all our incredible sponsors, whom we acknowledge below. Please support them whenever you have an opportunity. I want to thank our amazing merchants who establish a “street fair” atmosphere with creatively themed destinations and to the volunteers… you epitomize the Harrison Strong spirit of our community. Thank you to our Public Works and Police Departments and our Recreation Commission for working diligently with our business owners and coordinating with our Township Government and Administration to assure there are fun things to do all year long. These events and programs are strong threads in the fabric of our wonderful community. On that front, a special shout out to the official party planner of the Hill, Sharon Chew, our Recreation Coordinator, who continues to raise her own bar each year and with every event.

On behalf of Deputy Mayor Julie DeLaurentis, Committeemen John Williams, Adam Wingate and Committeewoman Michelle Powell, I invite you to join us as we celebrate Harrison Township. I hope to see you and your family on June 4.

Together for Harrison Township,
Lou Manzo
Your Mayor
