To Our Harrison Family,
There truly is something exciting happening in our wonderful town… I and others have often referred to it as a Renaissance on Main Street.
Our historic Main Street has always been a special part of Mullica Hill’s charm and this rebirth is adding to its appeal. Several cool shops have opened, many in just the last few years. Today you can stroll down Main, enjoy some of the best antiquing anywhere, and find an array of fashion boutiques, home décor merchants and unique specialty shops and eateries. Several located in beautifully restored buildings.
This Renaissance is rooted in the spirit of the Main Street business owners and influenced by the Mullica Hill Business Association (MHBA). For many years the MHBA had been capably led by Dave Tinney, who retired from that role last year. The organization’s leadership now includes George Murphy (Time Fine Mens Store) and Eric Shaw (Madam Chili Peppers) in their capacity as President and Vice President, along with Ginny Gramaglia (Serendipity XIX), Lynn Perez (Mullica Hill Art Center), Barbara Vag (The Parsonage), and Danielle Walls (D-signed For You). Marketing “the street” is a full-time job and this team works tirelessly to build our brand.
Building on the success of our perennial Best Event in Gloucester County, Lights on Main, the MHBA and business owners continue their quest to make The Hill a destination by expanding Main Street events. They have Introduced new traditions such as the Valentine’s Day Chocolate Walk, Car Show on Main and Hounds in the Hill, along with classics like the Mullica Hill Art Festival, Fall Festival and Living History Weekend and others.
Their latest event launch is Thursday’s Shopping Under Stars, first introduced last year and with this year’s return it has been expanded upon. Participating merchants are now offering huge one-night-only savings and every third Thursday of each month, special family-fun theme nights are planned. Last month’s theme was Superheroes, which included playful activities and our merchants dressed as Superheroes – it was a great time!
July’s theme, scheduled for next Thursday the 21st, is Back to the 80s on Main, where you can cruise Main in 80’s style. I think you’ll find our merchants have outdone themselves with the festivities they have planned. The fun will include:
- a Main Street Scavenger Hunt
- 80’s MTV Dance Party
- Cape May Brewery will be serving cold ones at The Corner on Main
- photo ops with the real Back to the Future DeLorean and Dukes of Hazard General Lee cars
- and much more!
You can find more on all the fun here.
It’s gonna be an awesome night and a great opportunity to see the Renaissance on Main Street in all its glory. I hope to see you there!
Together for Harrison Township,
Lou Manzo
